A journey back to my roots through the breathtaking Khasi Hills 🌿

A journey back to my roots through the breathtaking Khasi Hills 🌿

The trip began near my native village Laitumsaw, in the first stretch of the East Khasi Hills, close to Balat the border town where Meghalaya quietly meets Bangladesh.

The moment we reached Umpung River, everything slowed down. The water was crystal clear and cold, flowing like a mirror under the sky. Sunshine poured over the hills that stood in perfect alignment, like silent fortresses guarding the valleys.
We were driving along a high plateau, a table-top cliff rising above the world, dropping nearly 600 meters into the valley below. From that height, the endless hills rolled into the distant plains of Bangladesh. The view was simply mesmerizing.

From Umpung village, we drove along the newly built Wah Bamon road, passing Pyndem, War Dommawlein and Mawput, slowly making our way toward Kyniong and Nongnah. Every turn opened a new painting of hills and valleys, fresh air filling the soul.

A mind-blowing trip. A refreshing feeling. Home always feels different in the Khasi Hills.

Ka Lum Khasi ka iing, ka mynsiem, ka jingsuk. Khublei Shibun.
